Update Your Oats
It’s time to give oatmeal its due: this often overlooked breakfast is one of the healthiest and surprisingly tastiest ways to start your day. Since most people don’t realize its potential, they dismiss its bland color and porridge-like sloppiness. Oatmeal usually conjures up the image of a Dickensian vat of flavorless mush, but if you pair unusual ingredients together this breakfast has an unlikely twist. Not only is oatmeal a healthier breakfast to enjoy, but it also keeps you full throughout the day–an advantage when there are so few opportunities to grab a meal between classes.

Orange-Clove Oatmeal
1 Cup Milk (or Water)
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Ground Cloves
1/2 Cup Quick-Cooking Oats
1/2 Cup Cracked Wheat Hot Cereal
1 Tbsp Flax Seeds
2-3 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1-2 Tbsp Orange Zest
In a microwaveable-safe bowl, combine milk, cinnamon, and cloves and cook for 1-2 minutes. Stir in oats, wheat cereal, flax seeds, and sugar. Top with more milk and zest.
